TMM’s Agony Aunt: We Look Like Every Other SaaS Company!

We recently exhibited at an event in the tech startup zone, and we realised—we look like every other SaaS company!

Hi Chloe and Charlotte,
We recently exhibited at an event in the tech startup zone, and we realised—we look like every other SaaS company! We've decided it’s time to rebrand, not only because we want to stand out in the sea of blue at events, but also to become instantly recognisable. Our budget is tight, so we’re likely going to work with a freelancer, but we’ve never done a rebrand before.
What advice do you have for us in terms of direction, and how should we brief the freelancer?
Thanks,
Adam

Hi Adam,

Standing out in the SaaS space is tough, but it’s definitely possible. Here’s how you can do it:

1. Avoid the Generic Blue-and-White Look: Create a brand identity with colours, fonts, and visuals that truly reflect your company’s personality. Focus on what will resonate with your customers, not just what’s familiar or what you personally prefer.

2. Write Like a Human: Skip the buzzwords like “seamless” and “scalable.” Instead, opt for clear, straightforward copy that’s easy to understand. Not only will this make your product more approachable, but it will also help you stand out from the typical SaaS crowd.

3. Have a Clear Point of View: Whether it’s a bold mission statement or a unique approach to solving a problem, make sure your brand has a differentiator. Own it and let it shine through in everything you do.

4. Consistency Is Key: To build recognition, your brand needs to be consistent across all channels. You should repeat your messaging and visuals so consistently that you may start to get bored with them—this is actually a good thing! Remember, your audience won’t see your brand nearly as much as you will, and consistency helps build trust in today’s crowded marketplace.

We hope this helps!

Best,
Chloe and Charlotte
